As a Summer Construction Intern at Bauen Build, you’ll gain hands-on field experience while supporting the project team in delivering high-performance custom homes. This role is designed for college students pursuing Construction Management, Architecture, or related fields who want meaningful exposure to modern building science, Passive House principles, and the realities of day-to-day residential construction.
Approximately 80% of your time will be in the field, assisting Site Managers, trade partners, and project teams. The remaining 20% will involve computer-based work, helping with digital documentation, quality tracking, and basic project coordination tasks.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupport level only — not responsible for leading site operations.
Field-Based Responsibilities
- Assist Site Managers with daily construction activities, site setup, cleanliness, and material handling.
- Support jobsite quality and safety efforts by following established procedures and identifying issues as they arise.
- Shadow trades and internal team members to learn framing, air-sealing, insulation strategies, and other high-performance building techniques.
- Help monitor construction progress through photos, daily logs, and on-site checklists.
- Participate in field measurements, basic takeoffs, and verification of installed work.
- Receive and inventory deliveries, ensuring materials are organized and protected.
- Support mockups, testing prep (including airtightness/air-sealing exercises), and other hands-on building science tasks.
Office / Computer-Based Responsibilities
- Assist the project team with plan reviews and digital documentation.
- Help organize drawing sets, specifications, and materials documentation.
- Update project logs, schedules, and digital folders under supervision.
- Research building materials, construction details, and industry best practices to support high-performance design and execution.
Skills and Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in high-performance building, Passive House concepts, and hands-on learning.
- Ability to work safely and productively on an active construction site (training provided).
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Comfortable with basic hand tools and willing to learn new field skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
- Ability to read drawings at a basic level (or strong willingness to learn).
- Professional, positive attitude with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Nice-to-Have (Not Required):
- Exposure to Bluebeam or drafting software.
- Previous construction or fabrication experience.
- Interest in sustainable design, building science, or Passive House.
